Community Support Grants Program Awards Seven New Grants to Local Nonprofits

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital is proud to announce the distribution of $258,395 to seven nonprofit organizations this June through the Community Support Grants Program.
The grants will support the following organizations and projects:
Support for Assisi House will help expand a community vegetable garden in the community of Baden. In 2023, the garden produced 1,000 pounds of produce, supported 27 families, and trained 50 youth in the garden.
“We wanted a community garden for the people to have something to do that’s constructive and to provide them with things that they may want to grow and eat,” says Gloria Gooden, a Baden resident since 1972 and owner of Gooden and Daughter Plumbing Contractors. “My hope is that the garden becomes a whole community project.”
Funding for Casa De Salud will support the operation of a medical clinic that serves 3,000 patients, provides case management services, and offers mental health support to patients from low-income households, uninsured people, and foreign-born individuals.
This grant will help youth transition from homelessness to safe, stable housing and independent, healthy lives while also providing medical and mental health services.
"The critical need for youth service providers and lack of specialized services for youth demonstrates a demand for the services we provide".
Support for PreventED will combat substance use and overdose death in the St. Louis area through its Adult Assessments Program and NaloxBox Initiative. Since 2023, 75 NaloxBoxes containing intranasal naloxone, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, have been placed in St. Louis areas with high opioid overdose rates.
A grant to Provident, Inc. will support its Access Center, which provides behavioral health services to St. Louis area residents on a same-week basis. The service helps people get the non-medical support they need and reduces emergency room visits.
Funding for HavenHouse will provide lodging, meals, and transportation for BJC patients, families, and caregivers close to the hospital at a significantly reduced cost.

This grant will support the expansion of staffing capacity for the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), a program of Young Women’s Christian Association of Metropolitan St. Louis that provides 24/7, real-time support in situations of domestic violence and assault.
The Foundation awards Community Support Grants four times throughout the year to local nonprofit organizations focused on reducing health care disparities; fostering strong community health care networks; promoting adult health, wellness, and disease prevention in the community; and providing quality health care education. Five endowed funds held at the Foundation support the program, ensuring investment in improving the health of our community is a priority. In 2023, the Foundation awarded 24 grants totaling more than $800,000.
Organizations may apply for a Community Support Grant through our Grant Opportunity Web Portal. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed quarterly.
