Celebrating Nurses Week: Hats Off to Our Health Care Heroes
Monday, May 04, 2020
Each year from May 6 to May 12, National Nurses Week celebrates the many contributions nurses make to the health care field and honors one of nursing’s first pioneers, Florence Nightingale.
As health care workers across the globe face the COVID-19 pandemic, the leadership of our nurses is more important than ever. The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, along with our partners across the system, would like to thank these professionals and encourage the community to support their work.
“At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, we are committed to providing excellent care for our patients, their families and the community that we have the privilege to serve,” says Angelleen Peters Lewis, PHD, RN, FAAN, vice president of patient care services and chief nurse executive at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. “Though COVID-19 has presented unprecedented challenges for our frontline team of caregivers, we are confident that our nurses have the skills and compassion to lead us through this health care crisis.”
BJC HealthCare has been overwhelmed by the community rallying to support our nursing heroes, with efforts including yard signs, donated meals and personal protective equipment, and financial contributions to the Foundation.
“Now more than ever, we need your help to magnify the power and impact of nursing to transform health care delivery and to promote the best outcomes for our patients and our community while fighting this pandemic,” Angelleen says. “We ask for your support to unleash the power of nursing to help us solve some of the complex problems that lie ahead related to the current pandemic.”
