Community Support Grants Program Awards 5 New Grants to Local Nonprofits

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital is proud to announce the distribution of $155,000 to five nonprofit organizations in December 2024 through the Community Support Grants Program.

The grants will support the following organizations and projects:

Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis (CSCSTL)

Support for CSCSTL will help cancer patients and their loved ones to manage the complex challenges of a diagnosis. Programming that includes support groups, workshops, and social and lifestyle resources break down barriers to physical, mental, and emotional care crucial for those who need cancer support.

Food Outreach

Funding for Food Outreach will support efforts to provide free nutrition services to individuals of all ages who are battling a chronic illness while experiencing food insecurity. Connecting individuals with nutritional and medically tailored food removes a barrier to health during an already difficult time.

Duo Dogs, Inc.

This grant will support the Touch Therapy Dog program at Duo Dogs to provide animal-assisted mental health relief for patients, students, and residents in health care and educational settings. Currently 300 teams visit senior centers, skilled nursing communities, hospitals, cancer centers, hospice facilities, and schools in the St. Louis area.

Harris House Foundation

Support for Harris House Foundation will help alcoholic and chemically dependent individuals achieve sobriety regardless of socioeconomic status. Treatment at the transitional housing facility will guide individuals to become stable, employed, and healthy members of society.

St. Patrick Center

With this grant, the behavioral health treatment program at St. Patrick Center will continue providing psychiatric and medical services, medication, intensive case management, and other counseling and referral support to those who experience or are at risk of homelessness.

The Foundation awards Community Support Grants four times throughout the year to local nonprofit organizations focused on reducing health care disparities; fostering strong community health care networks; promoting adult health, wellness, and disease prevention in the community; and providing quality health care education. Five endowed funds held at the Foundation support the program, ensuring investment in improving the health of our community is a priority. In 2024, the Foundation awarded 27 grants totaling more than $850,000 through four grant cycles.

Organizations may apply for a Community Support Grant through the Grant Opportunity Web Portal. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed quarterly.
