Heroes in Training Scholarship Fund: Empowering the Next Generation of Nurses

Hero—a word often used to define a person or character with supernatural powers—means so much more. It’s also someone who demonstrates unique strengths and abilities and acts courageously. The embodiment of a hero has evolved, particularly during these extraordinary times. There’s so much more to the definition, and we see it everyday in the students at Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College who are driven to make a difference in the lives of others.

Acclaim traditionally follows acts of heroism—but the everyday heroism of our nurses and nursing students is often unsung. Goldfarb students don’t choose a nursing career for prestige or praise, but for purpose. Their belief in humanity and the hope for healing is why they do it.

So many of these Heroes in Training choose Goldfarb to help cultivate this inspiration. This selfless dedication to serve and make a difference fuels their commitment to nursing education.

Some days will be tough, and some will be long—some will be both. Still, these Heroes in Training show up every day—ready to learn, ready to care and ready to lead.

But the journey to becoming a nurse can be challenging both academically and financially. As we face a growing demand for nurses and rising educational costs, scholarships are more critical than ever to ensure the brightest and most compassionate students have the opportunity to pursue their passion.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital established The Heroes in Training Scholarship Fund to help Goldfarb continue to attract dedicated students who will be the future of the nursing profession and caregivers for generations to come.

The Foundation is proud to support these future nursing leaders by awarding scholarships each year to reduce the financial burden of nursing school. With help from our scholarship donors, students can focus on what matters most: studying the art and science of caring for others.
