Designated Funding and Endowed Chair Funding Requests

Many of our donors set up funds to support the research and patient care initiatives of physicians at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine through a designated fund or endowed chair. If you are a current recipient of a donor-directed designated fund or hold an endowed chair through the Foundation, you may request support online from your fund through our Grant Opportunity Web Portal.

Project Award Grants

The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital provides non-research grant support to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine faculty members for the advancement of the shared mission of both institutions. Project Awards support capital and equipment, education and training, and patient care.

  • These applications are considered with others on a competitive basis.
  • At least one letter of support from a Washington University School of Medicine faculty member must accompany any application submitted by a resident or fellow.

Community Support Grants Program

The Foundation's Community Support Grants Program seeks to provide the most impactful funding to not-for-profit organizations for new projects (seed funding) or to increase capacity in existing projects that will improve health care for adults and families in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

These small grants will affect at least one of the following areas:

  • Reducing health care disparities

  • Fostering strong community health care networks

  • Health wellness and prevention

  • Quality health care education

Applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed on a quarterly basis. The average grant amount is $33,000. Requests for ordinary operating expenses, operating deficit coverage, capital projects, event sponsorship, and projects focused on children are not eligible.

To see what a Foundation Community Grant looks like in action, watch this May 2024 KSDK segment about Operation Food Search and GreaterHealth Pharmacy & Wellness pairing monthly medication deliveries with nutrient-dense foods tailored to each patient. The Foundation was proud to award a grant to Operation Food Search to pilot this innovative and meaningful program.
